Edit: The launch of the first IC3D Spool Return window has been extended through May 2021 due to demand!
IC3D is proud to introduce a grand experiment in reducing the amount of plastic waste that enters the global waste stream. Instead of throwing away empty 3D printing filament reels, IC3D is asking you to ship, drive, or drag in your empty IC3D and Inland brand plastic spools (only) for reuse, and to unlock a special discount on the newly released Recycled PETG 3D printing filament!
Work together with other 3D printers in your local community to reduce your carbon footprint during the collection and submission of undamaged IC3D or Inland 3D printing filament reels. The spools will then be reused on future runs of production grade 3D printing filament by IC3D, including and especially Recycled PETG. Start the conversation now and meet other 3D printing experts in the IC3D Hive Discord chat channel.

This is just the beginning of creating a circular economy of plastics. While filament spools and reels make up a significant percentage of additive manufacturing waste, 3D printed prototypes and prints contribute even more to the global waste stream. IC3D is developing the Circular Polymer System — a platform for recycling scrap into parts by grinding legacy 3D printed products and prototypes and blending them with PETG to create IC3D Recycled PETG. New partnerships will enable additional material blends to expand our recycled material options.
Participation Requirements:
- Accepted spools: IC3D & Printed Solid
- Remove all stickers & adhesive

I love all the social-responsibility programs you promote… from your work with those printing PPE for COVID-19 response, to your work with Toys for Tots, and your spool recycling. You are awesome!
Also… you make fantastic filaments!
