3D Printing Filament & Prototyping Materials

IC3D is one of the first 3D printer companies to manufacture our own line of 3D printing filament exclusively for 3D printing. At a time when filament from other industries such as plastic welding was being used, IC3D recognized the need for a new material with properties made especially for 3D printing applications.

Specially manufactured to our specs, the diameter of the filament has an extremely tight-tolerance  of less than 0.5 mm. Countless hours of testing have been spent to prove the quality of these materials. These materials are compatible with nearly all 3D printers that can accept 3mm and 1.75mm diameter filament.  All IC3D 3D printing filament is vacuum sealed and packaged with desiccant. With our in-house manufacturing process, combined with our expertise and focus, we can provide the highest quality product at an affordable price.

ABS | Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene

High impact resistance & durability make ABS perfect for end-use products.

ABS has a reputation as an industrial standard for consumer plastic parts due to its high impact resistance, strength, and slight flexibility. IC3D engineers prefer it for the ease of support removal. We use it for a wide variety of print jobs from end-use automotive parts to netshape or near-netshape industrial parts.

HIS | High Impact Polystyrene

3D print challenging geometry in ABS with HIPS as dedicated support material with easy to remove snap away supports or by dissolving in D-limonene.

High Impact Polystyrene excels as dedicated support material for ABS-printed parts. Breakaway supports can be quickly tuned in all popular 3D model slicing engines to ensure easy support material. Nearly enclosed voids and features can be perfectly supported and removed by submerging the print in limonene, the compound that gives citrus fruits their distinct aroma. A 3D printer with IDEX, dual extruders, tool changing, or multi-material 3D printing is required for  printing with dedicated support material.

PC-PBT | Polycarbonate Polybutylene Terephthalate

Rigid, durable, chemically resistant, and a wide operating temperature range make PC-PBT the go-to material for industrial & automotive applications.

PC-PBT blends the strength and high temperature performance of polycarbonate with the rigidity and stiffness of PBT, a polyester-based resin to create an industrial-strength material for demanding applications.

As with all polycarbonates, IC3D PC-PBT boasts high temperature resistance and high impact resistance. The addition of Polybutylene Terephthalate not only increases those properties, but also decreases any warping on your 3D printed parts. Easier to use than most polycarbonate filaments, IC3D prefers PC-PBT for those parts that require more strength and higher temperatures, such as thermoforming molds.

3D Printing Filament

Does IC3D make its own filament?

Yes, we do! We make PLA, PETG, ABS, Recycled PETG, High-temperature ABS, and 70D TPU.

I have questions about IC3D filament, who can I talk to for support?

Email Support@IC3DPrinters.com or call 614-344-0414 for help.

Does IC3D make custom colors or filament types?

Yes, we can make custom colors. We have the capability to make different filament types – we’d love to talk more about your ideas!

  How is IC3D filament packaged?

IC3D filament is bagged with desiccant and boxed individually.

What are the IC3D Filament spool dimensions?

Filament Spool Dimensions

1 kg Spool
2.5 kg Spool
10 kg Spool

How important is keeping filament dry?

As long as the filament is stored in a temperature & humidity controlled environment — e.g. your house with the HVAC system running, not your garage — leaving filament sitting out for extended periods of time won’t lead to significant degradation of 3D print quality. That said, humidity levels of above 30% for extended periods of time (1-2 weeks) can lead to printing issues and would require drying to renew print quality. Printing issues from moisture can be identified by popping and hissing sounds from the nozzle during extrusion — this is moisture escaping in the form of gas — and can often be observed in the final print surface as ‘zits’ or pock marking. If you observe these issues, dry your filament using a dehydrator or oven using the recommended drying temperature for your material.

Under normal circumstances, HVAC systems will maintain humidity levels below 30% and should provide adequate protection against moisture degradation for filament left sitting out in the environment. For the best printing quality we recommend storing filament spools in the bag it was shipped in, along with the desiccant and using the reusable zip tie to seal the bag in between prints or for extended periods of non-use.

What 3D printing filament is safe for food contact?

While the FDA has approved some material for contact with food, the 3D printing process itself presents many opportunities for foreign contaminants and microbial buildup. We recommend covering or coating prints with approved food-contact or food-grade materials.
