When Anthony Amador joined the team in 2017 as an intern, he was already an IC3D filament customer and a freelance 3D printer for hire. Energized by the increasing access and expanded development of RepRap 3D printers, he bought a LulzBot TAZ and started making car parts, random tools, and fixtures for both himself and other people. He enjoyed building engines and suspension systems, and was able to use his new passion in the Californian hot rod shop where he worked. Using additive manufacturing, he was able to reverse engineer parts that were no longer in production or difficult to find to make cars look brand new again.
I enjoy designing and building things. It brings joy to my life. It’s always satisfying to see your designs work as intended. One of my simple joys in life is designing a snap fit, printing, and feeling the parts come together with a snap. It gives me goosebumps.
Well before he began the design work and hardwiring for the Virago 700, Anthony earned his bachelor’s of science in Mechanical Engineering from San Francisco State University. Before his current role as Project Manager and Account Manager, Anthony has worked in almost every department of the company, including filament production, filament management, extrusion, print service, and customer service.
We based the Virago 700 on our own internal needs as a 3D printing service. We needed a customizable and open motion platform, with multiple print surface options, modular print heads, and of course a large build volume. We integrated premium components throughout the design to keep the machine running for years to come with minimal maintenance. Whether you need products with fine details or you’re printing large objects or depositing a whole lot of plastic at one time, the Virago 700 is your best choice.
Anthony is excited for customers to discover how customizable our new machine can be and is glad to be able to bring the Virago 700 series to the market. From the first renderings, to the first trade show, Anthony worked for 15 months on design and assembly. A new challenge fitting for someone who only dreams big.
